Cyber Patriot Team
The Winston Churchill Cyber Patriot Team participates in local, state, and national level competitions organized and operated by the United States Air Force Association. The purpose of the cyber patriot team is to develop internet technology skills and to develop a basic framework for understanding and implementing network defense against cyber attacks. Coaches consist of teachers and volunteer mentors assigned with the assistance of the USAF Association Cyber Patriot organization. Participation on the cyber patriot team is not limited to JROTC Cadets. Students at Winston Churchill High School are encouraged to participate in the Cyber Patriot training and competition.
Cyber Patriot Season
The Cyber Patriot Season lasts from August through March each year. Sustainment training and competitions occur from April through August. On a weekly basis, the teams will participate in consolidated training activities on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 0700-0830 in the JROTC armory. Tuesday training sessions are dedicated to computer programming training. Thursday training days are dedicated to Cyber Patriot-specific training activities. Additionally, the team will participate in computer programming training and skills development on Monday mornings from 0700-0830 each week.
Cyber Patriot Teams
There are two classes of Cyber Patriot teams, Open Division and JROTC Division. There are two open division teams. The open division teams consist of a mix of students and cadets from Winston Churchill High School. The JROTC team consists entirely of JROTC cadets. These teams train together and are organized each year by the coaches and team commanders prior to the start of competition.
Participation and try-outs for Cyber Patriots
There are tremendous scholarship opportunities for students with computer technology and cyber defense skills. All students interested in participating in the cyber patriot training should contact the Cyber Patriot commander, Cadet Captain Jacob Widman or one of the JROTC instructors, Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Retired) Richard Gonzales, or First Sergeant (Retired) William Parr.

Cadet Captain Jacob Widman is an outstanding student-a scholar, athlete, and leader. Jacob has been a member of the Cyber Patriot team since its inception in 2013. As a third year cadet Jacob is serving as a company commander, academic team member, raider, and Cyber Patriot Commander. Jacob is also an honors student with ambition to serve as an officer in the United States military.
