About the Marksmanship Team
The marksmanship program is designed to develop precision-shooting skills for students competing in three-position air rifle shooting. The program consists of two classes of air rifles, precision and sporter. Precision rifle shooting is modeled after olympic-style shooting and allows for the use of specialized target rifles and equipment. The sporter air rifle class is deisgned for new shooters and requires less equipment. For additional information about the various classes of air rifle programs visit the Civilian Marksmanship Program website.
Marksmanship Season
The marksmanship season lasts from early August to mid-May each year . Because the skills required to compete at a national level require a tremendous investment of time and resources, students participating in the marksmanship program are encouraged to train and compete year around. Training begins during the August summer camps held on the Winston Churchill High School Campus and occurs until the final NEISD sponsored competition which is normally held in May.
Marksmanship Training Schedule
The teams train Monday through Friday between the hours of 0630 and 0830 throughout the school year.
Marksmanship Teams and Participation Requirements
The teams are organized prior to each competition based on the performance and demonstrated commitment of the shooters. All shooters must have a safety exam on record, a proven practice and participation record, an NEISD waiver, and a singed memorandum of understanding/individual safety pledge on file prior to participating in any marksmanship competitions.
Participation and try-outs for Marskmanship
All cadets are encouraged to participate in Raider physical fitness training-regardless of their individual level of physical fitness. The training regimen will be modified to meet the needs of all students in order to help them meet their individual fitness goals. Every effort will be made to ensure maximum participation for all cadets.
